A Bump in the Road…WRITER’S BLOCK!

Oh my goodness! I’ve been having major writer’s block these last several days. Nothing seems to be able to penetrate the block and crash it down so I can just continue with my story.

I’ve been working on a young adult fantasy fiction novel for about four years now. The reason it has taken so long is because I’ve been managing college, jobs and life in general. Oh and did I mention writer’s  block? And then of course anytime I start writing again in it, I end up reading through the entire thing, which takes awhile since it has grown longer and longer. And  I get stuck on editing, so I never get to further the story.

Sometimes I sit back and wonder if J.K. Rowling or Stephen King experience this, or is it just us aspiring, wannabe writer’s? I’m guessing the answer is that every writer goes through this. I think it’s inevitable. Some days I’m filled with inspiration. A rainbow or a storm or even just the sound of water gurgling in the fountain in my garden might trigger something in my imagination, and I’ll end up writing twenty more pages in my book. Then other days, or perhaps I should say months, I’m lost without direction and nothing to inspire me.

I guess I just have to push myself through the rut and war against the restlessness of my mind, so I can get back on track.

Perhaps some nice classical music and a delicious cup of coffee (preferably with Hazelnut creamer, a little Salted Caramel syrup, some sprinkles, and a dash of whip cream) will do the trick and get my creative juices flowing again.

  1. I’ve been working on a story idea for about two years and I definitely feel the need to re-read the entire thing before starting to write again! Hopefully you can get back into the groove today. (And side note: that coffee sounds really good for inspiration–hazelnut creamer is my favorite.)

    • Glad to know I’m not the only one who deals with this. And it’s a must that you try coffee the way I make it, if you love hazelnut lol
